PANTHEON PARIS

Before the construction of the Eiffel tower, Paris Pantheon was the highest point of view of Paris. The dome consists of columns which evoke a circular temple Greco-Roman. It supports three successive cupolas. It is the first dome of France built exclusively in stone. Rondelet was influenced by the dome of Saint Paul in London and by the Invalides. The 17 000 tons of the dome are supported by amazingly thin columns. In fact the weight rests on brackets which are dissimulated in the thickness of the external walls. The death of Mirabeau in April 1791 gave to the Constituent Assembly an opportunity to make a monument, which celebrates the great men.
